Solitas, Loneliness

Nobody knows who I really am
I never felt this empty before
And if I ever need someone to come along,
Who's gonna comfort me, and keep me strong?

We are all rowing the boat of fate
The waves keep on coming and we can't escape
But if we ever get lost on our way
The waves would guide you through another day

Finding you here, I didn't expect
To be with you from far away
Never dreaming that this could be happening
But now we're here, so let us go

I say a prayer for you and me
The angels sing and fly through the sky
The river flows a never ending dream
And so that dream will come true

Nobody knows who I really am
Maybe they just don't give a damn
But if I ever need someone to come along
I know you would follow me, and keep me strong

Everyday the river flows and stops again
Forever going up and down
Like the many hearts that one person has
It beats slow and fast, it grows

And every time I see your face
The ocean heaves up to my heart
You make me wanna strain at the oars, and soon
I can see the shore

Oh, I can see the shore
When will I see the shore?

I want you to know who I really am
I never thought I'd feel this way towards you
And if you ever need someone to come along,
I will follow you, and keep you strong

Every road that laid down on our path
We traveled all so far and wide
The moon will always shine us the way to our home
And then we wait for the stars to dance

I gave a prayer for you and me
The angels sang and flew through the sky
The river flowed a never ending dream
And so that dream cam true

And every time I see your face
The ocean heaves up to my heart
You make me wanna strain at the oars, and soon
I can see the shore

We are all rowing the boat of fate
The ocean waves will rock us off our boat
But wasn't that the longest river we have rowed?
So if we ever fall, let's get back on
If we ever fall, let's get back on...

This song represents most of Kernal's feelings. the start of the song "Nobody knows who I really am, I never felt this empty before, And if I ever need someone to come along, Who's gonna comfort me, and keep me strong?" Represents Kernel's moments of Loneliness as no one but him can see the patches of light, and because of that he just wants someone to care about and vice versa. The part "And every time I see your face, The ocean heaves up to my heart, You make me wanna strain at the oars, and soon I can see the shore." shows that everytime Kernal thinks of Art, that he gains even more strength to go on and rescue his brother. the part "Every road that laid down on our path, We traveled all so far and wide, The moon will always shine us the way to our home." Represents that during his journey, no matter how far he was, he has a path towards home.

ad te literas, letter to you

Dear Cornelius fleck,

I'm very sorry for your loss of your younger brother Art. Your journey just to rescue someone you care about...It is very inspirational for many, it lights the flames of courage to help those you care about. I am very touched of how you would journey into a world you never been into before, that could potentially, and most likely would have killed you have you not the will power to continue.

I am still very amazed that you have lost a good comrade, and witness the betrayal of another. I myself am wondering how you somehow remained sane...or as sane as one can get after seeing demons throughout this whole journey. I'm just shocked at how your brother Art...Really wasn't your brother a baby demon you kidnapped, and tamed. I felt sorry for you when you tried to think that you can change him after finding out he was a demon.

Losing someone you love is never an easy thing, and because of this I have to praise you for somehow dealing with it. Losing your family is also a pain as they cause the rift only wanting Art back and not you. Anyways, I hope you find others to care about and to protect.

                                                                                         Sincerely,
                                                                                        Christian Martelino

Recio, Recited

I realize the screaming pain,
Hearing loud in my heart,
But I'm going straight ahead,
Against these odds,

(Can I find you)
(Can I find you)
(Can I find you)
(Where could you be)

Go ahead I'll control these lights,
Go ahead and try to stop me,
I won't stop 'till I find him,
It's fine if I get a slightly hurt,
Because I won't give up,
Even while dragging my feet along,

I won't lose these marbles, I'll let it guide me,
Before I knew it I saw you,

That makes me so overjoyed, I want to hug you,
Before my whole world comes crashing down,
Do you remember me? the one whom loved you so,
You were the reason why I kept going,
you were my only reason why I kept going,

(Can I find you)
(Where could you be)

What am I going to do within this panel of dark,
So dark I can't see my way,
These marbles start to glow brightly,
like a guide, I'll find my friends,
And then I will find you,

I'll fight demons, I'll challenge their masters,
Before I ever give in,
Will I remember the truth? how i kidnapped you,
You were a demon,
You were a demon that I stole,

(Can you see me)
(Can you love me)
(Can you hear me)
(Can you see me)
(Can you love me)
(Can you hear me)
(So do I)

I found the truth, it hurts so much,
No doubt it's right, It was my own,
All for this pain right now,
I'm sure from the beginning,
they always knew,
That you weren't really my sibling,
I noticed my loneliness, A gate to you,
I wanted someone to care about,

Someone whom I can love,
Someone whom loves me back,
With you around I was so happy,
I want you around still, i have to give up,
It will only cause me more misery,
It will only cause me more misery,
It will only cause me more misery,

(Can you see me)
(Can you hear me)
(do you remember)
(So do I)

Diarium Eorum, Their diary

Dear diary,

These patches of light I see....Are they real? Its like some weird thing...I can move them and put them together in cool patterns...but because of this, people think I am weird. I've never felt so lonely before. After putting these patches together I saw what I think was a demon. It was weird...But I didn't question it much as I have my brother Art with me, hopes he stops biting sometime...he never bites me much weirdly. Anyways I heard from mom that we're going to a new place, So I'm excited for that new people, maybe I can finally make new friends. Anyways, I have to help get my stuff ready.
                                                                       until next time,
                                                                       Kernal Fleck

Dear diary,

What soldiers like I am have the right to do this stuff! Anyways met up with this new disciple named dervish, He's pretty cool...has kinda weird spikes in his hair but as long as he can fight, I don't care. Also met with another kid named kernal, apparently he knows beranabus. My mission was to work with Dervish to close a window to the demon world, but met with kernal whom was trying to locate his brother and beranabus, We thought hey, might as well help a kid...He wouldn't survive, I want to protect him. Anyways this may or may not be my last mission as a disciple...boy oh boy, more fighting, yes for me~

                                                                                                       hopefully their will be more,
                                                                                                       Shark

Intellectus loci, Passage Comprehension.

"->Chaos. Everyone's running, crashing into each other, falling, screaming. I'm part of the madness Clutching Art in my arms. Fleeing blindly. Away from the grey light and the four-armed monster. Trying to stay on my feet. Weeping, partly because Logan has been killed, mostly because I'm terrified.

A girl smashes into me and knocks me to the ground. I manage to fall with Art on top of me, so he isn't injured. He's laughing----he thinks this is a game. I start to yell at the girl, but then I see blood gushing from her throat, her arms thrashing. She topples over. Flops about, then goes very still.

I look away before I can focus on her face. I don't want to know who she is. Right now I want to concentrate on the one thing that matters more than anything else ---getting out of here before the monster kills me.

I push myself to my feet, chest heaving. Looking for the best way out. It's hard to tell. I'm  surrounded on all sides by panic. I count two, three, four dead children --- then stop. I don't want to know the numbers.

The monster's on top of a boy --- Dave English, who was so afraid of death. the beast's fingers are buried in Dave's stomach. It's gazing around, white eyes darting from one child to another. Like it's choosing its next victim. or looking for someone in particular." <-

This passage shows the main character Cornelius Fleck or Kernal for short, and his horrible introduction to murder. While this is also the first time he seen someone get murdered,he saw all this carnage caused by a demon, slaughtering nearly everything in a very gruesome way. It will prepare Kernal into what he will be facing later and that he will have to deal with gruesome murders such as these, since he came into contact with the demons.

The passage develops the theme to that of a lonely child whom only wishes for friends to that of horror, trying to ensure his brother's as well as his own survival against demons. The theme shows the sudden change when they mention the demon killing innocent people such as children and whatnot, showing that the demon shows no mercy.

It affects the plot as it is one of the more important scenes showing his spiraling path of his journey to survive and to ensure that others he cares about survives also. It shows that he doesn't want to know whom died just live so the demon won't kill him.

The author Darren Shan just  described how an actual demon wouldn't let anyone live, that it would slaughter everyone not caring if its a woman, or a child. The author described it as a giant massacre that not many can imagine if they didn't read this.

The passage didn't develop the setting much but it developed the context in a way that it showed what kernal   was going to expect in the future.
